Third party vs fully comp car insurance

Posted by Cheapest Car Insurance

All the cars that get to use the roads of any state or country have to ensure that at least they have the minimum type of car insurance cover that is required by law. The question of which type of car insurance that a person gets to pick is just personal, but the minimum required by law has to be meant to allow the car to use the state’s roads. In many countries and states the minimum car insurance by law is the third party cover. This is usually the cheapest form of car insurance cover that is available for motorists on the roads.

Third party cover only takes care of very specific risks such as your liability for injury on others including your passengers. This car insurance cover does not take liability for accidental damage to your car, this means that if your car is damaged then you will have to meet the cost of repairing it. However you can make a claim on the other person’s insurance policy if it can be proved that the other party was liable for the damage. All in all the third party cover leaves the car owner exposed to many uncovered risks for instance if the car were to be stolen then the car owner would totally loss his investment and he would have to look for money to replace the car.

The best car insurance cover is the fully comp cover. Although it is expensive it also covers a wider spectrum of risks that the car is exposed to. The comprehensive car insurance cover protects the car against a myriad of risks including, fire, accidents, and burglary/theft. This cover protects your car against accidental damage, the cover covers the cost of repairs for your car as well as the cost for repairing the other vehicles involved in the accident. Fully comp cover also covers your car in case the car is badly damaged in an accident and it cannot the repaired, the insurer undertakes to pay the current market value of the car.

Once you have made up your mind on the type of car insurance policy that you will be picking, you will need to consider the finer details of the policy to ensure that you get exactly what you were looking for. This is because some insurance companies provide some extras on the car insurance which can affect cost of the insurance.

How to compare car insurance quotes

Posted by Cheapest Car Insurance

The only way that you can get to pick the best car insurance for yourself is through the use of car insurance quotes comparisons. This means that for any prospective car insurance buyer to get the best in the insurance industry then it is very important for the individual to be equipped with the essential skills of conducting car insurance quotes comparisons. These skills are important and they are only second to the individual’s ability to conduct a successful search for car insurance quotes, without these skills it becomes more of guess work.

Anyway conducting a successful search for car insurance quotes is relatively easy and it can be conducted using several avenues. However when it comes to conducting the actual comparison of the car insurance quotes for a decision to be made on where the purchase of the insurance should be done, then it becomes a little difficult. This is usually as a result of the complexities of the data that is involved. An analytical mind is required to sift through the data that is collected. The analysis of the data can be done using various analytical tools including comparison tools that are normally provided in websites which do provide car insurance quotes.

The tools provided by these websites for comparisons purposes are probably the best and the easiest tools to use. With these car insurance comparison tools even people who are not good in data collection, collation, analysis and interpretation can easily conduct the comparisons. Although the work of conducting comparisons is greatly assisted by these tools it is also important for a person to establish the parameters for comparisons. This will be the basis upon which the comparison of all the insurance quotes will be made.

Some of the most common parameters that one can comfortably use to conduct the comparisons include the pricing of the policies by the different car insurance firms, the kind of discounts that the car insurance firms are offering. Generally these two issues are only related to the premiums payable for cover. Additionally one can also include other parameters that are not related to the cost of the policy such as the reputation of the insurer in the insurance industry, the geographical location of the insurer, and the financial position of the insurer.

As a prospective car insurance buyer one ought to conduct an extensive search to pick more information about the insurers as some of the information is not usually provided by the car insurance quotes providers.

Is the cheapest car insurance better than the rest?

Posted by Cheapest Car Insurance

Cheaper is expensive, this is a saying that tends to dissuade people from going for cheap items including car insurance. The economic conditions in the world at the moment are forcing people to go for the cheapest car insurance policies just to make ends meet. However many of these cheap car insurance policies could end up being too costly for the insured when s/he is involved in an accident or any other risk that his or her car is insured against.

This is why it is important for any individual before s/he commits to a particular car insurance policy to get all the facts about the policy and the policy providers. Basically this information will help one to decide on whether to go for the policy or not, for instance if you find that a particular car insurance provider has a back log of unpaid insurance claims then it would be prudent to avoid such an insurer. This is because with such an insurer you might find yourself in similar circumstances, where you have filled for compensation and it takes ages for the claim to be settled.

Additionally you will also have to read the policy agreement carefully to understand what you are getting into before you sign it. Where things are not clear you might have to get assistance from a person who is conversant with insurance agreements. Ideally get to understand everything that is contained in the agreement because most of these cheap car insurance policies provide cover that is usually limited to specific risks. Know the risk that you are covered against and possibly the terms and conditions that are attached to the policy. This is very important as it will guide you in everything else that you do.

Anyway the limited nature of cheap car insurance cover is one of the greatest impediments that people whose cars are insured have to contend with. For instance if you have the car storage insurance policy then your car is only covered while it is in store and as such you cannot use this policy to get your car on the road if it does not have any other cover. Thus you will have to get back into your pockets to purchase another car insurance cover that meets the legal requirements of your state to allow your car to ply its roads. Thus the cheapest car insurance policies are not always the best and they can limit your movement and peace of mind.

What is included in car breakdown cover?

Posted by Cheapest Car Insurance

Although the car breakdown cover increases the car running costs it is also proving to be a worthy investment. This is particularly so in this time where technologically advancements have seen the development of superior cars that have been incorporating the latest in breakthrough technology. These new models of cars are quite complex to tackle in case of a car breakdown. Data from AAA shows that more and more people are now taking the car breakdown cover to protect themselves against car breakdowns.
There are four major types of car breakdown covers that are provided with each type of cover offering protection up to a certain limit. The four car breakdown covers are;

Roadside breakdown cover

This is the cheapest car breakdown cover. The insurer in this case sends out a patrol car to come and assist the insured in case of a car breakdown. The repair of the car is conducted by the roadside by the patrol. If the car cannot be repaired by the patrol, the patrol tows the car to the nearest car garage for repairs. At the garage all the cost of repair are borne by the car owner including the cost of any replacement parts.

National breakdown cover

This car breakdown cover provides some added benefits to the car owner. The cover includes roadside repair of the car and transportation of the car owner and his or her passengers to a destination of their desire. This type of cover costs a little more than the roadside cover.

Home start breakdown cover

The home start cover includes roadside and national car breakdown cover and in addition it also provides cover for the car owner such that the car owner can call the insurer to send the patrol to come and repair the car at his or her home.

Onward travel breakdown cover

This cover provides a complete package which includes the first three packages that have been discussed above and in addition it includes cover for the cost of accommodation and car hire expenses. The cost of accommodation and car hire is taken care off by the insurer. This is the most expensive of all the car breakdown covers.

The choice of car breakdown cover can only be determined by the car owner to suit his or her needs. However it is also important to note that the cheapest car breakdown cover is not always the best value for money.

Prime Minister Promises to Take Action at Car Insurance Summit

Posted by Cheapest Car Insurance

Car Insurance Summitof recent, Prime Minster David Cameron has just concluded a car insurance summit this week. This summit has come about as a result of England being labeled as the whiplash capital of Europe.

The recent summit focuses on reducing costs of motor insurance. In lieu with this, the technological methods and innovations including the possibility of using black boxes to reduce car insurance costs have been taken into consideration by the government and car insurance companies.

According to the Transport secretary, Justine Greening, “The great costs of motor insurance do not bear a resemblance to the real world anymore where drivers are becoming much more responsible and accidents are becoming fewer and fewer.”

As discussed in the summit, PM David Cameron has expressed the commitment of the government in taking action to cure the compensation culture and the excessive number of whiplash claims. With plans to lessen legal costs and to cut the safety red tape involved in compensation claims.

As PM David Cameron stated, “I am very much determined to take on this compensation culture which has been damaging the car insurance industry and pushing up the costs for motor insurance premiums.”

“I want to cease motorists from making trivial claims and to free up businesses from the fierce hold of safety red-tape so that prices of insurance will eventually come down.”

In addition to this, the government has also taken action against the expensive legal fees of personal injury lawyers, having reduced them to twelve hundred pounds. In terms with the lawyer’s referral fees, the government has outwardly banned them from ever practicing this again.

Car insurance providers and the government are now working hand in hand to find effective ways to lower the instances and costs of whiplash claims in Britain. Various options and possibilities are being looked at by both parties so that the number of claims would, hopefully, decrease significantly.

One of the possibilities that both parties are looking at is the smart or black box. With its promise of lowering car insurance costs for young drivers of both genders, this just might be a likely factor that the government and insurance field will introduce to the general public.

As one car insurance expert has stated after the summit, “Car insurance providers will be working side-by-side with the government to make sure that we will me able to make progress in the most immediate time. And also, hopefully, we will be able to tackle the issues of whiplash claims in the UK which will eventually result in lowered car insurance costs for motorists.”

Beware of Illegitimate Car Insurance Firms

Posted by Cheapest Car Insurance

With the rising costs of car insurance, everyone would like to cheapen out on their car insurance payments. However, a recent announcement came out warning motorists to beware of unauthorized car insurance companies offering significantly lower premiums. This is because of the threat that hangs over motorists relieving them of their licenses.

This warning against illegal car insurance firms was announced by the Lancashire County Council after a citizen of Lancashire was pulled over and found to have no insurance4 coverage on his vehicle.

This certain driver who was pulled over by the police claimed to have bought his car insurance coverage at a firm namely ‘Aston Midshire’s Insurance’ which has its main office in Leicestershire. According to the bogus insurance policy holder, this firm offered significantly lower car insurance rates for young drivers as compared to the more well-known insurance firms. Unfortunate for the young driver, there is no such ‘Aston Midshire’s Insurance’ authorized to offer insurance policies.

Currently, the Trading Standards Council, the local police and the Financial Services Authority are looking into the car insurance fraud case as well as the bogus car insurance company involved.

Based on what Police Constable Mark Howson of the road police sector said, “The police force became aware of the issue after a motorist was pulled over at Knott End because of our records showing that he was not insured. After further investigation, we have discovered that the motorists did indeed purchase a car insurance policy and was assured to be insured. Unfortunately, the driver was not insured and in case of an accident, he would have had to shoulder all of the expenses.”

In addition to what the police had to say, County Councilor Albert Atkinson and deputy leader of the Lancashire County Council said, “We would like to inform and urge all motorists to check with their insurance companies and guarantee that they are legitimate businesses. To the other drivers who have purchased car insurance policies from Aston Midshires do not drive until you have been able to arrange a legal car insurance coverage. Whilst you may have bought your motor insurance coverage in good faith, the fact still remains that you are not legally insured and in the event of an accident, you will be the one to shoulder all of the costs.”

“As a rule, it is best to confirm that your insurance company is legitimate and do not buy insurance coverages with small and unknown insurers.”

MP Report on Rising Car Insurance Costs – Revealed

Posted by Cheapest Car Insurance

Car Insurance CostsA recent report from the Members of Parliament has stated that the main cause in rising car insurance premiums is the increasing numbers of whiplash claims.

In accordance with this report, the House of Commons Transport Committee has stated that the rightful action against this would be to raise the bar for those who would like to make a claim on basis of whiplash. Payment must not be released to those making a claim unless they can rightfully prove that they have indeed been inconvenienced financially and physically.

Due to this report, the MP’s are further asking the car insurance industry to stop continuing old practices in regards with compensation claims.

Last year, Blackburn MP revealed the practices going on in the car insurance field when it comes to compensation claims. It has been found out that car insurance companies actually accepted referral fees from personal injury lawyers in exchange for customer details. Upon the exchange of details, the car accident victim then gets contacted by the lawyer who forces the victim into making a legal action.

In lieu with this, the Transport Committee proposed a suggestion to the government. According to the committee, it would be much better if the government would establish a cross-department committee that will focus on the task of reducing car insurance premiums.

On the other hand, a car insurance expert has stated that whiplash claims are the most    subjective and that this is what makes the claim a problem to challenge.

According to Louise Ellman of the Transport Committee, “We most strongly support people in their search for justice but most drivers should not be railroaded into taking legal action and making a claim”.

“In addition to this, the car insurance industry should stop irresponsible practices that force their own hand into raising car insurance premiums for motorists. Giving out customer details in exchange for measly referral fees must be put to a complete stop.”

According to the MP report, the main reason for rising insurance premiums was the rise in numbers for personal injury claims, most of which were Whiplash claims.

“We highly recommend to the government to raise the threshold in regard with qualification for approval when it comes to whiplash claims. If the number of whiplash claims does not reduce significantly, car insurance premiums could just keep on rising. Therefore, there must be strong evidence for the primary legislation to actually consider releasing a claim.”

Car Insurance Company Says Driving Under the Weather is Equal to Drunk Driving

Posted by Cheapest Car Insurance

car insurance companyAccording to a new research conducted by an UK-based car insurance company andWalesUniversity, driving with a cold is the same as driving with four shots of whiskey. The survey, being conducted by theCardiffUniversityand Young Marmalade Insurance, revealed that driving with a bout of flu or a cold is basically the same as drunk-driving.

Vehicle safety experts have observed that motorist’s driving skills seem to reduce by around 50 %. This is in direct contrast with drivers absent of flu. The key points that suggested these observations by the motoring-safety experts are the lack of concentration and reduced reaction in a motorist’s driving skills. According to these experts, driving under the weather is just the same as driving with four glasses of double whiskeys tucked in.

Marketing Director for the UK-based car insurance company that revealed these studies, Nigel Lacy, said that “This simple observation is a warning for drivers because a bad cold can affect a driver’s attitude, concentration and sound judgment”.

Recently, upon release of these facts regarding the study conducted by bothCardiffUniversityand the car insurance company, the ABC news placed in a request for the full details pertaining to the revealed survey. Unfortunately, neither the car insurance company nor the university revealed the details of the survey. It is due to this circumstance that experts were lead to believe that the survey has no actual basis.

Dr. Martin Bittner, a Department of Infectious Disease staff doctor at the VA Hospital stated that, “Being doctor granted with a Master’s Degree in Epidemiology, I truly wonder about the consequences of these problems like, ‘Are we dealing with a common problem’ or ‘Is it simply a rare case?’. These questions are not answered in this case.”

There are no known surveys or studies relating to accidents that have occurred due to sneezing or flu symptoms and problems. With around 500 million cases of colds per year, the idea of colds affecting one’s driving is simply too broad for it to have any semblance of truth.

According to the researchers at theCardiffUniversityinWales, they have based their survey on simulated driving of study participants using the telematics technological black box. According to them, the results recorded by the black box showed that those participants with the flu or with a cold have poor braking and cornering skills.

In contrast to what Dr Martin Bittner revealed, Dr Christopher Ohl said that, “Every individual knows that when they are under the weather, they are not at their physical and psychological best. This is why doctors advise patients with colds or flu or fever to stay home and rest. It just might be a good idea to add safe-driving to that list. One must know that there are a lot of mental impairment problems that is caused by illnesses. However, they are not that mush of a problem if they are properly controlled using non-narcotic medication.”

OFT to Investigate £10 Billion Car Insurance Industry

Posted by Cheapest Car Insurance

Car Insurance IndustryCheap car financing does not seem to have any use when the car insurance premiums just keep getting higher and higher. This is in lieu of the estimated 21 % increase in car insurance costs during the last two years. On the other hand, while some motorists endure a 21 % increase, others may endure a much higher premium of up to 40-50 %.

With these findings, the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has decided that it is about time for them to look into every element that might affect these staggering insurance rates. As of a recent announcement, the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has stated that they are now commencing an investigation within theUnited Kingdom’s £ 10 Billion car insurance industry.

According to the Office of Fair Trading during their preliminary research, they believe that they have enough proof to suspect the industry of iniquity. These ‘reasonable grounds’ that the OFT has been speaking of relates to the restricted competition within the replacement vehicle-for-hire companies and within the car-repair garages. It is because of this strained competition within the industry that has lead car insurance companies to comply with their demands. Hence, car insurance premiums have been on the rise ever since.

In relation with the investigation of the Office of Fair Trading, they have found out that insurers have a hard time trying to scrutinize whether or not insurance claims for alternative transportation and vehicle repairs were actually reasonable anymore.

The Office of Fair Trading has pinpointed referral fees as one of the factors that have cause car insurance premiums to increase. These referral fees refer to the commissions that have been received by car insurance companies from third parties like a personal injury law firm. The commission is given to the insurance provider in exchange for a policy holder’s contact and accident information. Thankfully, the Minister of Justice has called a stop to this perverse habit.

Sonya Branch, spokesperson for the OFT, has stated that, “With the arrangement of for-hire replacement vehicles and third-party repairs to policy holders, we believe that insurance companies are competing to extract as much money as they can from each other rather than by keeping car insurance premiums at a low.”

The Office of Fair Trading expects to end their investigation before the end of this winter season. The Office will also look into the possibility that insurance companies are neglecting to give pertinent information to motorists regarding legal protection rights and other important factors that regard their insurance coverage.

85 % Increase in Car Insurance for Motorist’s with DUI Charges

Posted by Cheapest Car Insurance

Car Insurance for Motorist’sMotorists who will be convicted of drinking and driving can fully expect an increase in their car insurance rates. The expected car insurance increase, however, is a staggering 85 %.  This is in accordance with a survey set by an online car insurance site.

The car insurance company that launched this recent survey has found out that motorists with a DR10 penalty on their driving licenses can fully expect to get an expensive car insurance premium. So, drivers who have a drink and drive conviction on their license need not be surprised to get exorbitant insurance quotes the next time they go car insurance hunting. An annual average of £ 420 – £ 790 is the estimated increase that will be expected to be added to a motorist’s insurance rate. Furthermore, a number of drink-and-drive motorists might even find it difficult to acquire a car insurance coverage in the future. In accordance with the Department of Transport, 6 % of road victims or casualties and 16 % of car accidents involved a driver having an over-the-limit alcohol level.

Peter Harrison, an insurance expert at an online car insurance company has stated that, “The Christmas season is the time of the year to go to parties and to other festivities. Hence, a lot of motorists could celebrate a wee to much. Making sure that certain transport arrangements are in place before such celebrations is now a necessity since driving under the influence of alcohol is not a practical option. It does not only place the life of the driver and the passengers in danger, yet, it also endangers the life of other motorists and pedestrians.”

Motorists that will be convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol are sure to face serious penalties. As part of these penalties, a fine of £ 1,000, a 1-year drive ban and a probable jail sentence can be expected by any caught and convicted motorist. Apart from this, convicted drivers can expect the mentioned 85 % increase in their car insurance costs.

While there is a set limit as to driving and alcohol, driving within the set limit is still not advisable. This is due to the fact that consumed alcohol can impact reactions and impair coordination. Hence, the probability of getting into an unfortunate car accident is high. Also, it is important to take into consideration the different reactions of different people to alcohol. Generally, it is better for driving motorists to stick to non-alcoholic drinks during this year’s festivities.

Labor MP Speaks Up For Young Motorists Suffering From Exorbitant Premiums

Posted by Cheapest Car Insurance

car insurance costsAnother MP has decided to speak up regarding the staggering rates of car insurance costs. This time, however, MP John Woodcock is speaking up in behalf of young motorists that are the majority of motorists that receive exorbitant premiums. John Woodcock will propose this today in front of the Association of British Insurers Auto Insurance Conference.

According to the MP for the Labor Party, young motorists are already fighting tooth and nail just to stay in school or to keep their jobs. These staggering car insurance costs are not making it any easier for them to do this, alongside rising train fares and bus cuts. According to the first level of review made by the Labor Party, they have found out that the average auto insurance premium for young drivers is nearly £ 2,500.

The Labor’s proposal will be included in the new deal amongst car insurance providers to stop the surmounting costs of auto insurance that young drivers are currently suffering from. This is in lieu of past surveys that have stated and proved the high risk among young drivers being involved in fatal fender benders. One major highlight that has been used by insurers in the past is the fact that young drivers tend to drive at night frequently and it is because of this fact that they are more prone to be involved in accidents. In contrast to this, the Labor’s appeal has come up with a proposal that will address this problem without offering young people exorbitant prices in auto insurance. This proposal is known to contain heightened driving knowledge and safety awareness among young motorists.

According to MP John Woodcock, “There are over a million young people who are without a job. We honestly need to break down the barriers that are hindering them from finding employment. In relation to this, the exorbitant costs of car insurance are making it almost impossible for these young people to go out and find a job or to stay in school and pursue their education.”

“Car insurance companies should not overprice young motorists. Instead, they should be helping young people make a choice between cheaper products that have more specified times or intervals as to when to use their cars.”

“I just hope that our offer to cooperate with car insurance providers will be matched by the Ministers of the Government who have appeared to be mildly complacent with the recent transport crisis,” said MP John Woodcock.

Uninsured Drivers Will Be Given Tougher Penalties By The British MP

Posted by Cheapest Car Insurance

driver uninsuredThe driver fines inSouth Walesare nearly 500 % less than an annual auto insurance policy. This is in accordance with the new figures that have been revealed recently.

According to the Ministry of Justice, there are around 3,500 drivers in theUnited Kingdomthat were fined with an average amount of £ 185 for driving without an insurance coverage. This amount is clearly lesser by over £ 700 compared to an annual car insurance policy. This has been made clear by one of the largest car insurance providers in theUnited Kingdom.

Recently, tougher penalties are being called by the Members of Parliament and various motoring organizations. This is in regards with the easy let-off that non-insurance holders have been getting. According to them, it is these irresponsible drivers that have been causing insured motorists an extra £ 30 in their car insurance policies.

Jonathan Edwards, the MP for Carmarthen East, has said that ‘We do need to have a two-pronged approach to drivers whom are uninsured. Firstly, there needs to be a tougher deterrent of higher fines for those people that drive despite the fact that they do not have a car insurance coverage, especially to those who does this deliberately.”

“On another note, we also need the car insurance industry to act less like a cartel. There will be a parliamentary discussion and debate to be opened soon and the rising costs of car insurance are going to dissected and properly attended to. We hope that we will come up with valid actions to reduce the costs of motorists.”

In theUnited Kingdom, there are about 160 victims of uninsured drivers that lose their life. Those who are injured by uninsured drivers have risen to around 23,000.

These figures from the MIB or Motor Insurer’s Bureau only prove that uninsured drivers are more careless and irresponsible in their driving compared to drivers that are covered by an insurance policy.

While the average fine of uninsured driving is at £ 185, the maximum penalty for a driver driving without car insurance is at £ 5000. Apart from this whopping amount, the driver will also receive 6 to 8 penalty points on his driving license. And if the courts would decide to disqualify the driver, then an uninsured driver will truly be at the losing end.

Hence, it is about time for all uninsured drivers to get a car insurance policy rather than have their right to drive taken away from them indefinitely.

West Yorkshire has the Most Number of Uninsured Motorists in the UK

Posted by Cheapest Car Insurance

uninsured driversAccording to the figures gathered by the Motor Insurer’s Bureau,West Yorkshireis one of the worst areas for motorists without a car insurance coverage. This is because of the findings that seventeen of the most problematic postcodes in the country are within theWest Midlandsor within the West Riding.

Out of the 17 postcodes, five of them are situated inBradford. Also, driving on roads with no cover in this region is seven times more than the national average. The Motor Insurer’s Bureau has stated that there is an estimated 1.4 million uninsured motorists driving around on British roads. This figure is approximately 4 % of the 34 million automobiles that are registered. As a result, £ 30 is added to each motorist’s insurance coverage.

Statistics of injuries and fatalities that have been caused by British uninsured motorists are at 23,000 and 160 respectively. These figures are based on accidents that have occurred on British roads annually. Starting from June of this year, uninsured motorists will need to face prosecution even if they are not driving their cars. Hence, each motorist is forced to insure their car or to declare it off the road.

In accordance with this problem,Bradfordpolice have relayed the fact that they have seized more than 1,000 vehicles in less than 5 months. Chief Superintendent, Angela Williams, has claimed that they seize 6 cars by average per day.

The Motor Insurer’s Bureau has said that there has actually been a drop in the overall number of uninsured drivers during the past 5 years. This announcement was released concurrently when the ‘Office of Fair Trading’ declared its plan to launch a survey into the increasing rates of car insurance. And in relation to this, the ‘Transport Select Committee’ has also asked the British government to think of taking action in terms of preventing more car insurance fraud and uninsured driving cases.

Chief Executive of the Motor Insurer’s Bureau, Ashton West, has mentioned that “We cannot just stand by and let uninsured driving remain; otherwise honest motorists will continue paying for injuries and damages caused to properties and people”.

Insured motorists are truly at the losing end. For instance, insured motorists who get involved in an accident with an uninsured motorist will generally find out that their car insurance provider will cover any repairs that happen to their vehicle yet they will lose their no-claims bonus. And, if they do have third-party coverage, they will probably be in more trouble because their insurer will not likely pay for any vehicle repairs.

Car Parking Rates Increase 400%

Posted by Cheapest Car Insurance

Car Parking RatesCar insurance rates are not the only factors on the rise. According to a recent survey, parking rates and permits have also been on the rise. In fact,SurreyCounty’s former parking rates at £10 now cost £50. Hence, a raise of 400 % has been made by cash-strapped British councils to the car owners particularly inWoking.

In Cambridge, some parts have incurred a staggering increase of 85 % whilst Tunbridge Wells, inKent, have incurred 50 % increases.Manchester, on the other hand, has incurred an increase of tariffs up to 23 %.

President of AA Car Insurance, Edmund King, has said that; “Increasing motorist’s parking charges is just another attack. British motorists are already suffering from high fuel and car insurance prices”

On the other hand, former MP Andrew Dismore mentioned that; “Motorist’s permits are like poll on wheels. They were introduced to make sure that motorists could park their cars outside of their own homes yet councils are just looting money from hard-working citizens. The council should ensure that they are not using motorists as cash cows to milk out money in replacement for lost incomes.”

“It is a council tax raise motivated by stealth.”

In accordance to these increases, a survey has been constituted by certain groups. According to the survey, out of the 96 councils that participated, 57 of them have either increased the charges or extended the hours. The average increase was found to be at 44 %.

InLondon, the Westminster Council has estimated that the new fees will bring in a much-needed £7 million per year. The council plans to increase the parking costs to as much as £4.80 / hour. And, in addition to these changes, the law of enforcement will also be increased. Motorists are also being charged to park inLondonnow.

InRichmonduponThames, the parking charges are up by 15 %.

A representative for Association of British Drivers, Keith Peat, has said that; “When the councils give permission for the trade parks and supermarkets to operate, they highlight the fact that their spacious parking lots need to be free to the public. Anyone would think that the local traders operate under a separate administration”

Local Government Minister, Bob Neil made it a point to realize that this is no time to use parking as a cash cow.

He also added that; “Our parking fees should not be used as a way to increase the revenue within the government. Straight-forward thinking councils must keep parking rates on a low in aid to the local businesses and trade shops.
